Getting the balance right?

If only I knew how to get the balance right every time, then I would certainly be sharing with everyone that comes into my world.

Sometimes people can get the balance right at home but not at work and find the battle of this such hard work.

Sometimes it is getting the balance right at work that can be a real struggle especially when you feel you have it nailed at home. However, sometimes it can be a mixture of both, and you are not sure which way to turn or which part you can work on first.

Why is it so hard to be able to get the balance right every time? Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves to do this? Is it because we want to have a calmer life? Is it because we want to be able to achieve both good work and life balance but not sure how to go about it?

My week last week was going well and then suddenly out of nowhere I had to shift everything one day to take extra capacity which I couldn’t say no to as it was a good opportunity for me. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy what I was doing as I feel fortunate that what I do in my business makes me incredibly happy and brings me so much joy but trying to squeeze too much in a day which was unexpectedly made for a battle with my world of trying to get that work/life balance that works for me.

What did I learn from this?

I learnt that these days are good to be pushed to the workload limit. I learnt that the rush of these days brings me excitement, joy, and great satisfaction. It did help that I knew the following day was going to be lighter as even if I did take on extra that day too my meetings were limited to just the one.

I have spent many years not getting the balance right and filling my days to the max with no capacity meaning it would fall into my home life every single day. The longer I did this the harder it was to fall out of that trap and the more difficult it was to put those boundaries up. Getting that balance right doesn’t happen overnight but taking a step into how each of your days looks to see where space could be used was important to me.
